Intermediate Essay Questions:
- How does Aubrey’s idea of a “perfect vacation” differ from a traditional vacation, like traveling or sightseeing?
- What benefits does Aubrey mention about staying home for her vacation, and how do these contribute to her relaxation?
- What activities does Aubrey mention she might do at home during her vacation, and why do you think these are appealing to her?
Answers:
1. Usually, traditional vacations has the person going outside of their homes to visit specific public locations. Traveling and Sightseeing requires the person to go outside and go to a destination of their choice, specifically a location with beautiful views and such. But to Aubrey, her 'Perfect Vacation' is staying at home and relaxing. It differs from the traditional sense of going on vacation because all you need to do is stay at the comfort of your own home.
2. A major benefit she mentioned is the fact that she's able to save a lot of money by having her vacation at her home. Another benefit is that she's able to not be too tired by staying home and recharge a lot of her energy while still having her own 'vacation'. The benefits I mentioned contributes to her relaxation because there's not really a lot of stress in just staying home, relaxing, and doing her own activities without going out into the public.
3. There were a few activities she mentioned she might do in her own 'vacation' at home. Some of them are staring into a wall, taking a lot of naps, playing video games, occasionally cooking, spend time with her pets, or even doing absolutely nothing. I think these activities are appealing to her because they are easy to do and they can be rather therapeutic, especially for her mind and mental state because she works a lot and work long hours when she's not free.
Advanced Essay Questions:
- Why might taking a “do-nothing” vacation be important for someone with a busy work life? In what ways could it help them recharge?
- How might Aubrey’s preference for a stay-at-home vacation reflect broader ideas about self-care and maintaining a work-life balance?
- How might Aubrey’s approach to vacation challenge traditional views of what a “successful” vacation looks like? What does this suggest about personal definitions of relaxation?
